Ft. Stanton Cave Update

During the two exploration trips that occurred last month, the exploration teams took a number of photos. Most of the photos are nondescript and not of much interest beyond the Fort Stanton Cave Study Project. However, there were several that illustrate the characteristics of the passages that the teams found, and aspects of the passages that should be of more interest to the general public. Attached is a PDF photo album with low resolution versions of these photos.
Unfortunately, most of the passages that were explored under private property were not particularly well decorated, so many of the photos don’t have any “pretty formations” in them. There are some exceptions however.
The cavers in the two teams that went in last month are highly qualified and respected for their of experience in exploration and mapping. They came from as far away as California and South Dakota to participate in the trips. And some of them live here in New Mexico.
While the photo album does not specify under whose property any of the photos are under, I do have that information, and I’m going to send separate messages to those property owners giving them the option to download high resolution versions of the photos from their property. In this case, there are only 3 properties from which the photos come.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns — feel free to contact me or Project Director Ron Lipinski, the recipient of this message. Thank you all for your continued cooperation and support!
